fear and loathing on tv

I don’t know how I became a Hunter S. Thompson fan at 13, but he never ceases to amaze me. Watching him on the Conan O’Brian show was utterly good TV. Seeing him stumble from behind the curtain, drink in tow, was possible one of the best scenes on TV.
They had a rehash of Conan shooting automatic rifles with HST, probably once Hunter had enough of a buzz on. Then again, Hunter probably hasn’t been without a buzz since the Carter Administration. Nothing against the man, he’s a hell of a writer. But I think something about him and Keith Richards, kills the illusion that drinking and drugs kill. Maybe it’s the alcoholic Atkins diet?

  1. Dang… I would have loved to have seen that. There isn’t much I miss about television but Conan and the good Doctor firing off a few hundred rounds (too bad Andy is gone) sounds like comedy gold.
Your probably aware of it, but Hunter S. is churning out a regular column for ESPN ( http://espn.go.com/page2/s/thompson/030506.html ). Not too bad but not quite the same as the old gonzo stuff.

  2. do you know where i could find and download that episode?
