Black Jeep Blues
I made the final payment on my Jeep, Friday. In the past month, I’ve replaced:
- Radiator
- thermostat
- Serpentine Belt
- Lower Radiator hose
- hood cable
At around 93k miles, my Jeep is crossing the line between good and crappy. It’s been the best car I’ve had, hate to sell it but need something more dependable. I’m getting tired of spending my downtime with that Jeep. We’re looking at either a mini-van or another SUV…probably a Jeep Cherokee newer than our existing one.
Our budget is very limited and this vehicle is possibly a “transitional” car…meaning we’ll probably keep it a while (until our finances get better) and trade it off. I’d normally offer to sell the Jeep to someone locally, via this website, but the Jeep needs some work and I’d hate to pawn it off to anyone (other than a dealer) knowing that.
So, I’m going to peruse some of the local used dealerships and hopefully have a new deal in the next 2-3 weeks.

Well, if you don’t mind going deeper into debt, I highly recommend a Toyota Highlander. If you want used and smaller, perhaps a Toyota Rav4? Good luck, I’ve had my share of auto-issues over the years as well, replacing transmissions, gas tanks, rear doors, etc…

Yeah, we’re really looking at Toyota & Honda for a replacement. This weekend with friends, also introduced me to the wonderful “Consumer Reports Guide to Cars”. Where it has not only the best new cars, it also has a report on used vehicles as well. Toyota and Honda were one of the few where almost every vehicle is considered a good used car. I’d like a RAV and the Highlander is nice….my friend purchased a new Honda Pilot but we also test drove the Highlander and Sequoia.
But we’re really looking at getting a 4 door sedan right now…scrapped my Van and SUV ideas after I wrote the post. There are a few nice newer Honda, Saturn, and Toyota sedans that we’re checking out this weekend. But it all comes down to price…..
