		<description>There has been an evolution of the parties.  My grandfather ran as a democrat as Tax Commissioner for 28 years.  His views are generally conservative and he is absolutely not a liberal.  If he did not think it would betray all the people who voted for him, he would probably vote republican.  His wife is similar.  They are very conservative, religious, and pro-life.
The parties ideals now have less impact on government and more on social beliefs.  Republicans tend to be conservative with more religious concerns.  Democrats tend to be more liberal and secular.  An issue of gay marriage or homosexuals in general would be a good example.  See how people who call themselves democrats and republicans respond to those issues.  Homosexuality has absolutely nothing to do with government but yet it seems to be an issue that categories people into their respective parties.
This real question is now why and how has this happened.
