B4 B5

February 27th, 2002

J. Michael Straczynski , creator of Babylon 5, posted about his next project. B5 was the only Sci-Fi show I really got into. I liked the writing better and thought the characters were mor real. This next show should be interesting…hopefully

futzing with blogger

February 24th, 2002

I spent a good part of Saturday morning trying to insert permalinks into my blogger template. Since I use Server Side Includes (SSI), my Blogger template is very very simple. The only code in it is the actual Blogger code. No other html is added. Somewhere in the Blogger interface, it likes to change your scripting around after you update your template. That means it looks fine the first time you publish your new template, but if you go back in, you will need to change a few things to keep it from screwing your code up. A good tutorial for Blogger Permalinks is here and Phil Ringnalda has a good selection of HOWTOs over at his site.

I stayed up writing a few new sections for the next version of mkelley.net. Nothing too large, but interesting. I’m going to delay it’s release a few more weeks. Maybe I can have a few other things finished by then too. The coding is going well, mainly I’m just freshening up content. My portfolio really needs an update, and my resume’ will too.

Also, the site for my friends in Moe Savvy finally transfered. w00h00. So go visit it at moesavvy.com and vote for them in the CIA Music Awards. I will go ahead and say that I designed their site in the hopes of drawing other people to riv@.

clean and code

February 24th, 2002

I’ve been cleaning up the code on the riv@ site (aka my other business) and tweaked the CSS a bit. I’m expecting a few more visitors to the site, so it needs a good cleaning.

note to myself.

R.I.P Chuck Jones 1912-2002

February 23rd, 2002

It’s almost approporate that I’m posting this on a Saturday morning, because millions of children grew-up with his animations each weekend. Bugs, Daffy, Roadrunner, Marvin the Martian…all a part of the lives of millions. First Mel Blanc now Chuck Jones. The obit is over at CNN and Chuck’s official site is over at chuckjones.com.

Over at MeFi, dglynn summed it up best.

another new site

February 23rd, 2002

The new site for my friends in the band Moe Savvy is online. The DNS hasn’t completely transfered. It will be at moesavvy.com in the next few days. The site has a neat little layout. It looks horrid in Netscape 4.75. I did have a completely new CSS-based site ready, but I could tell that it wasn’t “IT”. So, I sat back last weekend and got this one together. I took apart the riv@ code and saw some mistakes I made and corrected it for this site.

update on yesterday…re: css

February 22nd, 2002

Using Owen Briggs’ Box Lessons, I made myself make a CSS version of the new Baroness site. I started thinking about it and it really wasn’t that hard. The only thing that wasn’t moved over was the navigation bar at the top. Now, if some of the people could view it, then I would migrate to it instead. Oh, and it validates css and html. Owen’s templates are a great start if you like to hack with code. I used a variation of his centering code and a cross of that and Eric Costello’s code. Steal it, copy it, just don’t use the images and text.

webbing I go

February 21st, 2002

I finished my first medium sized project for work. It’s here and have a look, it’s not public yet. Once the text is finalized, it’s going live. I’ve been writing, coding, and researching every little item for this project. It’s a website for the namesake of my employer. Interesting history and happens to take place during my favorite era in history, late 19th and early 20th century. I had an earlier idea for this site on paper, and was able to use about 85% of it. The idea for the photo and the general layout. It doesn’t validate html, because of the nice Kaosweaver Breadcrumbs script. It validates CSS and looks good in all of the 5.0 and above browsers. In Netscape 4.75, it looks ok, but doesn’t like the CSS on the text so it blacks some of it out. Why not a CSS layout? The site is also a “proof of concept” and if it’s decided as a final design, then I’ll transform it to CSS. Unfortunately, I can do a table layout quick and that’s what I needed. I have a CSS layout, but it wasn’t ready for prime time. I’m not that much of a CSS hypocrite.

[note: I added the code for a space into the URL for the site, since Nav4.75 was choking on it only to find that IE started to choke so the Netscape link is here.]
