Sacred Cow Tipping 3.0: Codename Euro.

Inspired heavily by the CNN International snipes and was originally set to be Drumblog’s new look, I decided to try it out here. I use keywords, not categories, to change the post’s look on the red pages, will have to work on that in the Euro pages.

I dig this look, probably more than any other look I’ve had. I know it didn’t test well with Drumblog!, but the users there are different than ya’ll here.

Designing this site has always been kinda a “back burner” thing. Never enough time to make the changes, never enough time to test, never enough time period. Honestly, I’m on a computer all day. I usually have Dreamweaver open and making changes to code and usually under the gun. So to go home and do that for fun? Yeah, that doesn’t happen.

To get my mind off of things, I made some initial sketches and an actual mock-up of just a new menu/masthead for the site. Coding it will be a slow process. I have to make sure the menu actually works with everything before I even think of the XHTML or the Movable Type template. I think I’m going to go with something very simple & clean. Nothing too ornate.

I’ll probably just put up a CSS-less page and start building in stages, just to make it kind of a show or a work in progress.

For lack of a better term: “Under Construction”

Since my blogtime is very limited now, I’m considering making this site a weekly. I’m wanting to do something unique, and that’s very hard considering there are bazillions of blogs out there now. I think one long post on various topics, one main focus, would be something different. Would also be something I could manage.

Again, I didn’t take this. This was in the bathroom at that little place where the memorable video of (the beautiful) Rebecca MacKinnon crossing her eyes, was shot.

{Workbench: Letter from Dave Winer’s Attorney} – “First, we request that you return the $5,000 deposit that Mr. Winer paid you in October 2005 in connection with certain work that you were supposed to perform for Mr. Winer in revising and maintaining Mr. Winer’s website, feeds.scripting.com. Mr. Winer had previously sent you a consulting agreement regarding this work and made it clear to you that he would not hire you to perform this work without a written agreement signed by each of you. It is our understanding that neither you nor Mr. Winer signed such an agreement, that the redesigned site was never completed and launched, and that Mr. Winer has advised you that he no longer wishes to use your services for this project.”

Wow. I think we as bloggers should cut out Dave Winer on everything. I’ve witnessed his explosions in person and I had some respect for him, very little but some respect none-the-less. He’s quit blogging for all of an hour, talks about retirement from blogging, etc.

Well guess what?

We really don’t care.

My best friend, Evie, has ended her run on Oblogation. I’m sad to see her go, she’s a wonderful writer and I always loved her look at politics and society. I know she’s working on another site and I’m hoping to start skinning the templates in the next few weeks.
