Moo!

November 23rd, 2005

Yep, new design. i’m working on pushing it to my archives. it’s simple, very simple and not really stylish. But it’s a work in process and the design will be added to, in the next few days.

Commercial Break

November 23rd, 2005

A friend of mine has gone into the gourmet caramel corn business and has some of his wares up on eBay. He’s been bringing samples into the office and we’ve been his focus group, for lack of a better term, and I can say it’s much better than the store-bought variety. Buy some as gifts or just to munch on….

vanity anonymity

November 18th, 2005

Someone asked about anonymity. I’m not concerned about having my name known as the proprietor of this site. I just didn’t want to have my “vanity” site being brought up into job interviews. So, that’s why I pulled the link on that site. As far as my author name being “k”, that’s just simpler to use than my full name.

Thanks to everyone who’s been cool about the change. It’s weird writing for this site and introducing myself to people who know me from blogging, but saying “oh, I’m not on that site anymore”.

Ok, my batt’s about to die.

(not so) Shameless Plug

November 14th, 2005

During my break from work/work last week, I put together a new online portfolio that will eventually become the face for my old site, mkelley.net, as well. Everything was done in Movable Type with one php scripts here and there. I’m still thinking of ways to improve the site, I still want to include a “logo” section, but there are some other changes I’d like to make using MT’s tags.

I also wanted the new portfolio to be up before I attended Cre824 this weekend.

RTFM? FU! Ranting on Blog Software and Geeks

November 3rd, 2005

I’m on vacation next week, not going anywhere specific but lots of little projects to work on. This site, for instance, has some much needed work that should take me a good day to accomplish. Moving some of the links and cleaning up the tipped cow to where I’m satisfied.

Yes, the site is “powered by Movable Type”, much to the chagrin of some of you here. The choice and reason behind this, is that I know it better than WordPress and honestly, I can work much faster with Movable Type than I can WordPress….it just seems friendlier to me. It’s also the reason I’m building my portfolio site in Movable Type too.

Honestly, the support is better with MT than with WordPress. Have you seen the WP wiki? Talk about a clusterfuck…. With MT, I can ask a question and get a somewhat good answer or a path to follow. With WP, I always got more smart-ass answers that are soooo fucking typical of the geekary associated with the alpha-geeks on most messageboards. RTFM? FU!, I Did. And I read the Wiki, your blog posts and that t-shirt with the DeCSS code silkscreened upon it.

[Everything TypePad - To our customers] I’m getting where I feel a little bit cocky that I’m over more terabytes than the SixApart admins…then again, they have more bandwidth.

The basis for this site was a long meal with some friends of mine, where we talked about these posts that “weren’t right”. Things that went ahead and said, “I know this is so not right, but…”. Very politically incorrect things that attacked everything: republicans and democrats, all religions, all celbs, all that some people take a little too seriously.

I’m still trying to figure out “my voice”, how I’m gonna write the site. I’m fairly cynical about most things, look at the humor in some of the worst situations, and can reduce bullshit to utter bullshit in just a few microseconds.

Every side of an argument creates their own spin, it’s up to us to cut through the rhetoric and pull out the truth. Similar to how a pig looks for a truffle.

Ok, this is more or less my new blog. Starting out changing how I blog for the first time in about 5 years. This is about freedom.

I’ve decided to just start from scratch on everything: how to post, designing the template, and getting my head together.

So I’ll have links and posts and pithy little comments about any and everything. So enjoy….
