2006resolutions

December 28th, 2005

Because of this:

I’m taking more charge of my health. That means eating better and getting more exercise than just walking around the plant and the department. Granted, I am on my feet a lot and I’m a lot lighter (about 165-170) than when I did the IT thing years ago.

Finances. Keep better records of what I buy, spend, sell, etc.

Do something creative, daily. I need to make sure that no matter how analytic or cerebral my work becomes, that I need to take some time out of my day for something creative. I don’t care if it’s web design, or photography, or writing, or music.

Read more books, offline. The web is great for readers, but you know what? Reading a book is different. You can sit down, relax, and get into a story. The web isn’t like that. So I’m gonna see how much I can read this year.

Get A Business Off The Ground. I would like to get Drumblog! back in order as well as a project/business that EvD and I have been talking about.

Some “Maybe” Resolutions

  • Look at OS X Certification…more
  • Learn to program something like PHP, more.

{CrunchNotes – Merry Christmas to you too, Dave} – “But I’ll tell you this: THANK GOD its not like a Jimmy Stewart movie around here. I’d have to buy a shotgun and end it all. I like things just the way they are around this house, and after three or four days here I’ll be sad to leave.”

I’m kinda dealing with something like this, although, I’m avoiding Christmas with my family this year. An aftermath of the Thanksgiving affair, I just don’t want to reduce my Christmas to a bunch of odd looks and hanging out with people I really don’t want to spend time with. I’ll be at the wife’s family Christmas in the morning and we’ll have my Mom over into the day. Granted, this isn’t how I want to spend Christmas either, but that’s how it is this year.

Although I differ quite differently to Mike Arrington, my family doesn’t really know me. They think they know what I like, think they know what I deal with. But they don’t. They don’t know the long hours I put in, the daily crap I deal with, they just don’t know me period. Nor do I think I want them to know me. Very few people get that privilege, it’s a select group :), so why should I ruin the party?

Random CSS

{CSS Colors: Take Control Using PHP}

I’ve been wanting to mess around with CSS and PHP for a while now, with something similar to this. I wish I were a better programmer. I’d seriously like to have a php script randomize the color base of a stylesheet. Like this page, lots of monochrome reds and blacks. What would happen, if you could script this to be a different color, on each refresh? So instead of red/black, it would use a color harmony wheel, to have a complementary design on each visit. It’s probably a one-liner in Flash.

How about if you could do the layout in the same way? Joshua Davis’ art is random, why can’t a blog design? I’m not talking about having 15+ stylesheets in a directory and having those pull up in random order. I’m talking about having a constant….your text then building custom layouts around that. So each visitor would have a different layout. It’s far out, I know, but it’s just an idea I’d like to see.

{Design/Production filter: Going from Mac to PC. | Ask MetaFilter} “What concerns are there when switching from an all Macintosh (Quark 4.1, Pshop 7, Illustrater 10) shop to an all Windows shop running new PCs and the Creative Suite 2?”

I’ve looked at this and I went through a lot of this….we looked at ditching all of our Macs and going Windows. BAD IDEA. Instead we ditched the one server/SAN causing our issues and it works much better.

Apple loves me, this I know, for the salesman told me so.

Tattoo Ideas….

{Ambigrams, Logos, Word Art} – A nice example of John Langdon’s ambigram work for Dan Brown….earthairfirewater by John Langdon

If I were to get a tattoo, one of the ones I’d love to get would be the Earth/Air/Fire/Water unit on that page. That simply is cool. Then again, seeing Illuminati wouldn’t be bad either.

John’s work, look through the symmetrical ones too, is just amazing. Such work and an eye for words.

Writer of a non-existant sitcom

November 1st, 2005

Sometimes you just have funny little one-liners pop in your head. Not sure where they come from, I personally believe they’re the cousin of the earworm, but they just strike me out of nowhere. Makes me wish I was a writer for a TV show instead of writing a blog.
