The lure of Asian authenticity is part of the appeal. Some American consumers believe sriracha (properly pronounced SIR-rotch-ah) to be a Thai sauce. Others think it is Vietnamese. The truth is that sriracha, as manufactured by Huy Fong Foods, may be best understood as an American sauce, a polyglot purée with roots in different places and peoples.
Call it what you will, but it’s wonderful!
- I tend to post a lot of stuff from the NYT, this one is worth the comments alone. From grammar, to whether they mean brown or wild rice, or self-promoting blog pimpage – some of these people are f-ing jerks (and I should know).
These people remind me that blog comments were good conversation at one point. Unfortunately, they’ve moved to being more noise than contribution.
Tomorrow will be our first Thanksgiving in the new house, along with the fact that this will be our first time hosting the Thanksgiving dinner outside of my Grandmother’s house. We’re not really freaking out, we have our food, people have their assignments, but it’s the first time we’re having a group of people over.
As much as I vowed to have a “bohemian” Thanksgiving in the past, where it’s not so much a blood family thing but what I view as an extended family, those close to us without really a destination or a purpose for the holiday. We’re sticking tightly to the traditional, bird, stuffing, pie, etc. No strange little bits of turkey floating around, just being normal…which it’s not easy for me to slip into.
We started really by having a meeting at the kitchen table a few weeks back, me in my role as project manager, the Wifey as kitchen coordinator and my Mom as the external communications person. One rule: play nice. We’re doing well, no arguments or disagreements because it’s really a laid-back day. Eat and socialise.
So yes, I tried to run Thanksgiving as a project. Timelines, resource lists and a very basic statement of work where everyone could agree on what they’d bring and what they’d do…from tables and chairs to green bean casserole. Luckily, I didn’t need QA to check my documentation.
Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you enjoy your day and take time to reflect on life and the great bounty we’ve received because of sacrifices through the years. 2008 has been the busiest time of my life and I am thankful for the support from both my family and my extended bohemian family.
